Year 2: Pendine Sands Museum
The new museum at Pendine Sands, celebrates the tradition of landspeed racing paying great respect to its history and native site. It houses a premium collection of landspeed cars and memorabilia inviting viewers and enthusiasts from all over the world. A Michelin star bar and restaurant cantilevers onto the beach allowing diners to enjoy the vast panoramic vista of this beautiful seaside location. A world-class go-kart track lets visitors experience the feeling of being a racer and a lovely picnic area creates the perfect place to enjoy the beaming sunshine of Carmarthen Bay.
Concept: Shell
The very sand that is raced on, once started off as a shell. The beautiful and mathematical art of Fibonacci. The purest forms of nature are what inspire man and machine to be perfect. The concept provides an organic theme and links strongly to the beach, grounding the building immediately to its site and context. A half exposed shell inspires the form as it rises from under the sand, creating a sense of mystery as to what lies beneath and beyond. Like much of the natural world, an element of the Fibonacci series is also subtly integrated into the design as it starts off from a focal point and grows into different segments of varying volumes to generate an idea of tension as it unwinds down the site and towards the racetrack. The thought that a shell is a home for a living creature leads to the intent of designing an interior that is disconnected from the main building envelope. In terms of form, this idea also provides an opportunity to create a contrasting segment both structurally and materially that spills out of the main museum.

Year 3: Oasis ReNova
Oasis ReNova is an urban beach and spa that brings leisure and seaside enjoyment to the metropolitan realm. ReNova aims to reinvigorate the body as well as regenerate the area by providing a hub that people can go to in order to escape from the commotion of the city. The spa allows users to undertake an atmospheric yet healing journey through different humid or temperate environments within each space. Various water bodies make this an ideal spa to meet any taste and the choice of indoor or outdoor spaces encourages usage throughout the year. The main attraction is a floating beach and pool that creates a dialogue with the spa complementing it through materiality and nature. The Oasis imagines “a city that is more than liveable – that is enjoyable.â€

Year 2: Introduction to Landspeed
In order to gain an informative insight into the tradition of Landspeed Racing, the goal was to design two posters, one with a visual nature and the other informational. They form a suitable introduction to the cars, statistics, racers and rivalry within the sport, setting a strong researched background and formal understanding of the theme. It is considered that the posters are potentially going to be displayed in the museum that follows in the next design project.
